Casting

Miami Fishing Tours - Casting LessonsSo much in shallow water angling depends on accurate casting and fishing in Miami’s Biscayne Bay is no exception.

Capt. Mo has been successfully guiding clients of all skill levels to successful days on the water, quickly adapting to an angler’s skill level.  Call Capt. Mo today and regardless of skill level, you will have a great time on the water.

Depending on the type of fishing we do on any given day, the casting requirements will vary.  If we are chasing snook along the mangrove lined shoreline, an accurate cast tight under the mangroves will be the ticket to success.  For fishing creeks and canals for snook or tarpon, blind casting is preferable and accuracy is not that important.  When we begin to chase bonefish, permit and tarpon on the flats, accuracy becomes paramount for success.  When chasing these fish, a quick accurate cast of about 40’-60’with the wind blowing from one direction is common.

The best way I have found to practice casting save for being on the water is to take six paper plates to an open field such as a park.  Lay the plates in front of you at different measured distances such as 30’, 45’ 50’, 60’ and 70’.  Also, lay them at different angles from you such as at your 10 o’clock, 11 o’clock, 12, 1, 2 and 3 o’clock in order to get used to the different angles in which you will be required to cast to.  Point the rod where you want your 1/8 oz jig to go and keep your rod tip in the same arch as you load your rod and make your cast.  Remember, where your rod tip goes, your lure/bait goes.  Practice, have fun and ignore the strange looks you’ll get from the other park goers
